Bug Identifier ("the App") is operated by AandI Studio ("we", "us"). This policy describes what the App does with your information. It is written to be read rather than to be survived, and it describes the App as it actually behaves.
Photographs are processed on your device. The recognition model is part of the App, and identification works with the phone in aeroplane mode. Your photograph is not sent to us and not sent to any third party for identification.
Sound recordings are also processed on your device. The sound model is downloaded once, after which recordings are analysed locally and are not uploaded.
Photographs you take stay in the App's own storage on your phone so your history and collection can show them. Deleting an entry deletes its photograph. Deleting the App deletes all of it.
Every one of these is requested at the moment it is needed and never on first launch. Declining any of them leaves the rest of the App working.
None of this is transmitted to us, and none of it is backed up to our servers, because we do not operate any.
Species names, photographs, descriptions and taxonomy come from the iNaturalist public API. When you open a species or browse the encyclopedia, a scientific name and your language are sent to them. Your photograph never is. Their handling of that request is covered by their own privacy policy.

When a species page links to Wikipedia, the App asks Wikipedia which article corresponds to it in your language. Only the article title is sent.
Subscriptions are handled through RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous identifier and your purchase status so the App knows whether you are a subscriber. Payment details are handled by Apple or Google and never reach us or RevenueCat.
Users without a subscription see advertisements supplied by Google AdMob, which may use a device advertising identifier to select them. You can reset or limit that identifier in your device settings, and on iOS the App asks before any tracking identifier is used. Subscribing removes advertising entirely.
The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Because the App collects no personal information from anyone, there is nothing for us to delete on request — removing the App removes everything.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data held about you. In practice we hold none: everything the App knows about you is on your own device and under your control. Clearing the App's data or deleting the App erases it completely and irreversibly.
For data held by the third parties above, their own policies and controls apply, and each is linked in section 5.
Data on your device is protected by your device: its lock screen, its encryption, and the sandbox the operating system places around every app. Requests to the services in section 5 are made over HTTPS.
If this policy changes, the new version appears here with a new date. Changes that affect what the App does with your information will also be described in the release notes for the version that introduces them.
